Sketchbook Project

I am taking part in The Sketchbook Monthlies, sponsored by Art House Gallery in Brooklyn, NY ( http://arthousecoop.com ). I was kindly introduced to this project compliments of Linnea, at Art Ravels ( http://artsravel.blogspot.com/ ), one of my favorite art blogs.

Each participant receives a small sketchbook (3.5 x 5.5) & has a month in which to fill the pages. There is a different theme for each month.

The theme for mine is " In These Shoes ". I started out a bit cartoonish.

I quickly discovered that the paper is very thin & that the oil sticks I have been using had made a real mess on preceding pages.

So I have started doing more in collage rather than direct painting.

The size is also a real challenge, as 3.5 x 5.5 is very small. I tend to use journaling, along with color on some pages.

It's been fun. I am afraid I am behind my deadline, but they say that this is optional, thankfully.

I like the combination of words & color, but I also enjoy just drawing. I still have quite a few pages to go. I will post more as I go along. I apologize that I am unable to provide direct links to the other blogs, there must be some app that I failed to download.

  1. I thought I would see sketches, with pencil or charcol, if the pad was watercolor quality it would be nice to use that medium or ever your oil sticks. All are nice .but I really like the first one nice work.

  2. I know, I am like a child. I love color & can't seem to stop myself. But I incorporated the patterns left from previous pages as part of design & enjoyed that process.
